REACH is an EU regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals, aiming to ensure that products are safe for human health and the environment.
The REACH report screens for Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) as listed by the EU, currently totaling over 200 regulated chemicals.
The key categories of substances tested include:
- Heavy metals – such as lead, cadmium, mercury, and hexavalent chromium
- Phthalates (plasticizers) – commonly found in plastic and rubber materials
- Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) – often associated with black rubber or infill materials
- Carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reproductive toxic substances (CMRs) – like benzene, formaldehyde, nonylphenol
- Flame retardants and halogenated compounds – such as PBDEs
- PFAS substances – including PFOA, PFOS, PFNA, etc., which are persistent and bioaccumulative
